The scholarship is non-renewable. The recipient will be recognized on the Our Lady of the Lake Surgical Hospital website and official social media platforms.

At Our Lady of the Lake Surgical Hospital in Slidell, Louisiana, we believe caring for our community means investing in its future.

The Senior Healthcare Scholarship honors a graduating high school senior who demonstrates academic excellence, leadership, service to others, and a calling to pursue a career in healthcare. Through this scholarship, we extend our healing mission beyond hospital walls and into the lives of students preparing to serve the next generation.

To be considered, applicants must:

  • Be a graduating high school senior (Class of 2026)

  • Currently attend one of the following schools:

    • Northshore High School

    • Pearl River High School

    • Pope John Paul II High School

    • Salmen High School

    • Slidell High School

  • Plan to pursue an associate or bachelor’s degree in an allied health field

  • Have a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.0

  • Demonstrate leadership, service, and involvement within school or community activities

Applicants will be required to:

  • Complete the full digital application form

  • List school activities, honors, awards, and community service involvement

  • List current employment, if applicable

  • Upload an official high school transcript reflecting a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0

  • Submit original short essay responses

Selection & Grading Criteria

Applications are evaluated using the following weighted scoring system:

  • Grade Point Average – Maximum 12 points

  • Extracurricular and Community Service Activities – Maximum 23 points

  • Student Essay Responses – Maximum 65 points

Maximum Score: 100 Points

All materials must be complete, legible, and submitted electronically before the deadline. Incomplete or late applications will not be reviewed.

Essay Questions

Applicants must respond thoughtfully and originally to the following prompts in one cohesive essay. Responses should be supported by personal experience, observations, and/or research.

  1. Service: Serving others is a privilege.

    • What type of service have you provided during your high school years?

  2. Reverence and Love for All Life: All life is precious and a gift from God.

    • What excites you about the future of your life?

  3. Joyfulness of Spirit: Joy is not always easy.

    • What lifts your spirit when life becomes difficult?

  4. Humility: Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less.

    • Is it more important to love or to be loved? Why?

  5. Justice: Advocating for those who cannot fight for themselves requires courage.

    • Describe a time in high school when you strived for fairness or equity for someone else.
